SPECIALTY MATERIALS

In the specialty material segment of its business, the Company seeks to provide solutions to technical product or process problems of its customers through the purchase or development of the most appropriate converted non-woven or specialty paper. Typically, the customer is in an unrelated industry and has little or no knowledge of paper and nonwovens materials or suppliers. The Company's personnel utilize their experience and technical knowledge, in partnership with the customers' technical staff, to create new product opportunities for the customer. Sometimes this will result in a new or improved product for the customer or a process aid for the customers' manufacturing. Typical material applications include (1) a low lint wiper on a roll to continuously and automatically clean a production line, (2) a non-abrasive wiper within a computer memory diskette and (3) an absorbent, insulative paper of uniform thickness to be placed between the positive and negative elements of a high voltage capacitor.

Boyd has marketing and distribution arrangements with several producers of nonwovens and specialty papers. This, coupled with years of industry experience, allows Boyd to offer product solutions to unique and often difficult technical applications. The Company's current offering is summarized as follows:

Market Strategy

"One of the hardest things for a large corporation to do is to remain focused on a niche marketing strategy. As a converter/distributor we work together with a network of producers to apply the right technology to meet the needs of our customers. It is our objective to work in partnerships within a select group of markets where our technical and manufacturing capabilities add value. That value is derived from the talents and abilities of everyone within the organization."
